introduction

London based photographer Mark Griffiths (Advanced Communication Arts – QCA), photographed surfing and motorcycle racing for friends involved at world championship level, Shooting precisely and quickly, these associations led to shooting marketing and promotions, then catalogues of surf clothing and swimwear.

Having interest in design and architecture led Mark to photograph interiors and design, and living in a coastal surf town extended his commercial photography skills to tourism and lifestyle.

Travelling and observing the characters of different lifestyles and cultures Mark developed a skill for working discretely and unobtrusively while encouraging interactive subject communication with the camera.

Editorial portraiture of known characters evolved from these experiences creating a realist photographic style of personalities at ease with representation. Mark’s approach combines extensive research with inventive technique, and maximum use of minimal lighting.

Video and production began with film and manifested in the efficiency of digital media with Mark taking inspiration from contemporary art and music, the work of illustrators, and digital media artists. Balancing method with fantasy and earthiness inspired by filmmakers Fellini, Antonioni and Kubrick.
